Six postgraduate students have been awarded a £500 bursary each from Postgrad Solutions to help them with their studies at universities throughout the UK and mainland Europe.
Last year Postgrad Solutions Ltd offered six students the chance to win a bursary of £500 each towards their tuition fees. This was a great opportunity for students to get some extra help in these credit crunch times of economic uncertainty. The bursaries were open to any student starting a postgraduate course in September/October 2009. There were 787 applicants from 42 different countries - and the six lucky students have now been chosen.
The winners are from countries ranging from Britain and Malta to Romania and India. Five of them have now all started their courses at institutions throughout the UK, including Aberystwyth University, Birmingham University, Warwick Business School, and Leeds University. The sixth will be studying at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.
The panel of judges selected the winners on the basis of who they felt were the most deserving cases based on what they had written in their application. On being awarded her bursary, one winner - Rachel Smedley said, “It is good to know that there are organisations out there committed to supporting struggling postgraduate students in such poor economical times - thank you!” Rachel is now studying for an MRes in Quarternary Environmental Change at Aberystwyth University.
Meanwhile Luana Bidasca has come to the UK from Romania to study an MA in Political Communication at Leeds University. The bursary of £500 from Postgrad Solutions has really helped her to achieve her dreams. She says “Winning the bursary has allowed me to focus more on my studies and less my financial situation.” Luana chose to come to Britain to study because she was attracted by the country’s traditions, culture and an internationally respected education system.
The other students are Charlotte Jarvis who is studying an MSc International Marketing at Birmingham University; Ankit Mital who is doing his MSc in Finance and Economics at Warwick Business School; Donald Tabone who is doing a distance learning LLM in Technology & Telecommunications Law at Strathclyde University; and finally, Condo Ndoli Said from Rwanda who will be studying for an LLM in International Humanitarian Law at the University of Geneva.
Postgrad Solutions Ltd is offering the same opportunity of a £500 bursary to six students starting postgraduate courses in September/October 2010. Payment of the award will be made directly to the institution, and will be discounted from the fees as appropriate. Students may only apply for a bursary after they have accepted an offer of a place at their chosen institution. The closing date for all entries is 18th August 2010.
